GRAMMAR NOTES

Queranaran is OSV in general structure (all the phrases here are of that basic order, anyway). Nouns and pronouns inflect for number,
case, tense and at times deixis. Verbs inflect only for aspect. There are some verbal nouns in here, and those include types like
participles, infinitives, imperatives and so forth.

If you’re going to try and read this, you can get away with the “continental” values for most everything here. Note that TQ is an alveolar
click; MG is a bilabial nasal continuant; doubled consonants are “long” — so, LL is a long L while CC should be two clearly enunciated [k]
sounds. Won’t go into prosody and distinguishing vowel types here.

Punctuation:

slight pause —  :
longer pause or sectional pause —  ::
quotation — ~:

Nouns:

Queranaran nouns inflect generally for number, case & tense. Within a phrase, you will sometimes notice that the object of a verb and the
subject of a verb display different tenses. Such a sequence of tenses denotes a relative time frame, and is very common in if...then statements
and the ordering of relative actions.

Infixation: adjectives especially, but also adjunct or descriptive nouns can be either interfixed (come between a noun and its associated movable
inflectional apparatus) or infixed (placed between a noun and its immovable inflectional apparatus, or even between to constituent parts of a noun
root). Certain grammatical markers are also infixable, but I don’t think there are any of those in this text.

Tense Markers:

Tense Markers always precede the case marker on a noun.

amran- — remote past
le- — distant past
cora- — past
surya- — near past

versen- — recent past or anterior present
ronu- — recent present
and- — present
yan- — eternal (everpresent)
rorya- — near present

melle- — near future
ya- — future
suur- — distant future
sandan- — remote future

Case Markers:

we- — ergative
dro- — absolutive
didi- — vocative (the vocative can also take the place of another case (ergative, absolutive) if the antecedant is now known
le- — locative
-enem — locative sing.
-and — absolutive plural
-oste — accusative pl

Number markers:

Queranaran nouns decline in two basic patterns, the native and the Teyoran. Teyoran nouns decline for case and number by the addition of stem
vowel and case endings much like we see in the Aryan languages of Eastlands. Native nouns decline for case by use of prepended but separable
particles. There are a number of ancient noun categories that are signified by paired particles postposed to the noun root. It is no longer
known what function these categories served, though some seem to point to a kind of semantic grouping scheme; in the modern language, they serve
well enough as singular & plural markers.

-nye, -canye, -ai, -ay, -i, -rauwo

Personal Pronouns:

yamó — 1 pl. excl.
elam — 1 pl. oblique
yrmen — 2 s. masc.
saya — 2 pl. incl.
sayó — 2 pl. excl.
derí — 3 sing. fem. proximate
dene — 3 sing. masc. proximate
salmó — 3 pl. excl.
salem — 3 pl. obl

Demonstrative Pronouns:

Demonstratives exhibit several layers of spatial deixis both in distance as well as laterality. Left side pronouns are considered to be more
positive while right side pronouns are considered to be slightly negative or disparaging.

pando — proximate, near to wing on the right, slight negative connotation
woytun — proximate, near to wing on the left, slight positive connotation
lostun — slightly distal, a little away on the left, slight positive connotation

Interrogative Pronouns:

param — interrog, what
percuo — interrog., where

Locative Pronouns:

Locative pronouns can indicate proximate location, attachment or possession.

lamayel — 1 pl.
rurel — 2 sing.

Null Pronoun:

The null pronoun’s main function is to support some other particle or part-of-speech word. It can also be used to be used as a generic third
person (she, it, they, them, etc) oblique. It can never rise to the function of agent or subject pronoun.

samayo — “empty” or null pronoun, used to support a particle

Verbal aspect markers:

-nga- — progressive
-m — imperfective
-s — perfect

Verbal noun markers:

-vehers — pres. act. fem.
-êste — pres. passive particip.
-ena — verbal noun
-ana — vbl. n. of strong desire, almost compulsion

Smooth Queranaran to English translation:

So, the herzog came and took in the report and spoke, asking: “What were you lot doing among us? You yourself and your warriors?”

“Sir, (we came) to utterly defeat you.”

“Your other warriors, where are they?”

“Nearby. We were hunting, tracking a girl running swiftly among the trees, flowing like a river.”

“Her — hunted in vain. Hah!”

“If you aid us, then I will agree to this plan: you all will live to fight another day in this territory. If you turn your wings
against us, you will die in an actively painful way.”

“Long bows! Recurve bows! Sheath them!”

“Come! Take charge of them!”

“Look here! Your clear blue sky our arrows will blacken!”

“Hahh! Old news! Our guardian angels watched over us!”

“Don’t be too sure of yourselves! Our girl already ran swiftly with messages , among the trees, flowing like a river...”
