Chapter 10 - The Victory - se̋ho से॓हो
  • One dawn as she was looking out over the sea, she beheld the arrival of the twins in their swan-prowed bark.
  • The sight gladdened her indeed and she wondered at the transformation of Athnor.
  • But her first thought was of the danger in which they had put themselves,
  • so that her first words to them were words of warning about the imminent return of the matron and the eventual return of the dark warrior.
  • "Do not fear, sister, for we have overcome the obstacles in our path, his pet and her husband.
  • We have not come this far to accept defeat.
  • We have come to take you home."
  • They hid the bark and the mare in the trees and went with Sulzi to the cavern.
  • "We will observe what transpires in order to see how best to use our power."
  • And they hid themselves in the dark corners of the cavern.
  • That night they came out of the shadows and told Sulzi the story of their journey.
  • "Now here is what you must do.
  • Take these plant bulbs and add them to her peasoup.
  • We will then know what Numta wants us to do next."
  • Sulzi did as they had bidden her and added the bulbs to the peas as she cooked them.
  • A marvelous fragrance filled the cavern
  • and she was tempted to taste the food in the pot but forbore on remembering the words of the bee.
  • As usual the daily tasks were completed by the time the matron arrived at the cavern.
  • That evening as she approached the table, the matron said,
  • "I heard the whinnying of a strange horse as I entered the cavern."
  • "Oh no, Mother, you must have heard the wind sighing in the trees."
  • "I smelt a strange odor as I entered the cavern."
  • "I am afraid, Mother, that the parsley is going bad.
  • I will pick fresh tonight after you have gone."
  • Satisfied that all was in order the matron finished her supper.
  • No sooner had she set down her spoon, then she cried out as if in pain.
  • "You wicked child, what have you done?"
  • When she moved to strike Sulzi, the twins leapt out of hiding, but defense was not necessary.
  • The matron had begun to shrink and grow old.
