Qaelian

Qaelian (called ís-Faárhúth in Qaelian) is the most commonly spoken language on the continent also known as Qaelia (ís-Qaélíirah). Because of high levels of technological and magical sophistication that have led to mass communication capabilities, Qaelian has spread all over its home continent and is used as a lingua franca, although many other regional languages are spoken as well. Members of all races on the continent speak Qaelian, but it originated among humans.

In addition to being spoken on its home continent, scholars and mages from other continents such as Azalia commonly learn Qaelian in order to study advanced forms of magic or science; it is thus a language of scholarship, learning, and magic in many other places as well, although not so widely understood. This makes it perhaps the most widely spoken mortal language in the world of Dombellus.

It is difficult to pinpoint the "homeland" of Qaelian, since it formed as a result of extensive interactions between refugees from northern Qaelia (in what was once the Sekhmrhet Empire) and the various peoples of southern Qaelia (among the former Free States of Belendla). However, it was formalized among the merchants and sailors of Neklirah (ís-Neéklíirah), and it is a first language for more Neklirans than for members of any other culture.
