Hear me!
I saw the children escape furtively under cover of night.
The hour was deep, the world was still, and sleep had darkened the windows.
The moon too looked away but under its dim glow were briefly illuminated their small frightened faces.
They cloaked themselves in thick fur and shod themselves in warm leather, and, mouse-like, they sneaked away from the house on tiptoe; mouselike, leaving just small footprints behind.
And now the air turns colder, and frost bites the land.
The gentle moonlight is already visible no more, instead their eyes look up at a dull white sky.
White snow falls thick across the land, accumulating like the memories of years and blowing like the dulling of pain, and soon obscures their little mouse-like footprints, smothering the traces of the children.
