EDO

EDO is an acronym for "Elves, Dwarves, Orcs" and refers to fantasy conworlds that are structured similarly as Middle-earth, especially with regard to the races that inhabit them. EDO conworlds are used especially in role-playing games.

Examples of EDO worlds

• Middle-earth - the original EDO world, and perhaps still the best
• Aventuria, the world of the German RPG Das Schwarze Auge (The Dark Eye)
• Earthdawn, very high magic
• Forgotten Realms, a D&D setting
• Midgard RPG, another German RPG
• Warhammer Fantasy

Less typical EDO worlds

• Glorantha, with races that only distantly resemble the standard races
• Inis Albion, based on Arthurian Britain; Elves and Dwarves are human nation, and Orcs are either Neanderthals or don't exist
• Rosæ Crux, modern fantasy, a spin-off of Inis Albion
• Shadowrun, cyber-fantasy
• Warhammer 40,000; Elves, Dwarves and Orcs are alien races
