Conlang is the abbreviation of 'constructed language', a language created by a person or persons and which did not naturally develop over a long period of time on its own.

There are many different kinds of conlangs, which can normally be divided into the categories of a priori (those languages which are unique unto themselves and do not emulate other sources or languages) and a posteriori (those languages which mimic or are heavily based upon a pre-existing language).
