Compared to the other North Germanic languages, standard Deirish has a rather small vowel inventory.

High Vowels: /i ɪ u/ High-Mid Vowels: /e ø o/ Low Vowels: /ʌ a/

/ʌ/ and /ɪ/ occur only in unstressed syllables.
