Paleo-Pontic is a name for a hypothetical prehistoric language family coined by Jörg Rhiemeier, which formed north of the Black Sea during the Last Glacial Maximum.
The Paleo-Pontic languages are unknown, but the Northwest Caucasian and Northeast Caucasian languages may be remnants of this family that would later have been eclipsed by Indo-European and Uralic.
