Pı̀
Pı̀ is one of the languages belonging to Pı̇ħ language family. It stems directly from Pı̇ħ, the family proto-language. It has an alphabetical script.
Typological structure
Pı̀ is mostly a morphologically isolating language.
In an isolating languages, semantical or grammatical morphemes are almost coincident with single words, and they do not change or add any flecting affix. Moreover, words can have more than one grammatical role in a sentence:
úp build (verb) – construction (noun) – building (adjective)
The basic word order is essentially SVO (Subject-Verb-Object).
hɛ̱ sū̀ ña̱ mū̀ (the) person sees (a) cow
The SVO order appears to be an evolution from a previous general SOV order. The entire system is indeed not firmly fixed between both orders.
Some typological parameters are set according to the head-modifier (or head-initial) type:
- verb - object
- preposition - noun
Other typological parameters are still set according to the modifier-head (or head-final) type:
- adjective - noun
- relative clause - noun
However, cases of noun - adjective and noun - relative clause parameter orders can be found through the language. The entire system appears, thus, to be under an advanced development toward the head-modifier (or head-initial) type.
