Gəjlnigo is one of the languages belonging to Piti language family. It belongs to the branch, named Biwdiwgu languages and it stems directly from Biwdiw language. It has an alphabetical script.
Typological structure
Gəjlnigo is mostly a morphologically agglutinative language, with some remarkable fusive features.
The basic word order is essentially SVO (Subject-Verb-Object).
ež pɔge ləjuš ež moǵ the person sees the cow
The system is mostly set according to typological parameters of the head-modifier (or head-initial) type, with one relevant exception, due to an incomplete realignment of these parameters.
- verb - object
- preposition - noun
- adjective - noun
- noun - relative clause
One relevant feature of the evolution of Gəjlnigo from Biwdiw is the complete loss of the verb to be, resulting in a deep readjustment both on a syntactical and on a morphological extent.
