Regular verbs

Regular french verbs share conjugation patterns in all the tenses and moods.

Français regular -er verbs


  • present tense indicative; active voice:
Person  Ending  parler (stem: parl-)
je      -e      parle
tu      -es     parles
il      -e      parle
nous    -ons    parlons  
vous    -ez     parlez
ils     -ent    parlent


Imperative regular -er verbs (present; active voice)

parler (stem: parl-)
-e: tu parle
-ons: nous parlons
-ez: vous parlez

Passé composé regular -er verbs (indicative; active voice)


The endings for all of these are -é, provided they use avoir as their auxiliary verb.
parler (stem: parl-)
j'ai parlé
tu as parlé
il|elle a parlé
nous avons parlé
vous avez parlé
ils|elles ont parlé

Near future regular -er verbs (indicative; active voice)


These are the present of aller plus the infinitive of the verb being used (-er).

parler (stem: parl-)
je vais parler
tu vas parler
il/elle va parler
nous allons parler
vous allez parler
ils/elles vont parler


Français regular -ir verbs


  • present tense indicative; active voice:
Pronoun  Ending   choisir (stem: chois-)
je       -is      choisis
tu       -is      choisis
il       -it      choisit
nous     -issons  choisissons
vous     -issez   choisissez
ils      -issent  choisissent


Imperative regular -ir verbs (present; active voice)


choisir (stem: chois-)
-is: tu choisis
-issons: nous choisissons
-issez: vous choisissez

Passé composé regular -ir verbs (indicative; active voice)


The endings for all of these are -i, provided they use avoir as their auxiliary verb.

The endings for all of these are -u, provided they use avoir as their auxiliary verb. Descendu only uses avoir as its auxiliary verb (as in these examples) if it is used with a direct object.
