Βaβar

Βaβar is the only language belonging to Βaβar language family. It is an endangered language. It has an alphabetical script.

Typological structure

Βaβar is a morphologically fusive language, with some agglutinative features and an additional limited but strongly marked introflexive feature, realized in verbal roots. It display also a strong tendency to reduplication in derivative morphology.

The basic word order is essentially SOV (Subject-Object-Verb).

βar mūɴ ɸaquɣ
(the) person sees (the) cow

The entire system is set according to typological parameters of the modifier-head (or head-final) type:

• object - verb
• noun - postposition
• adjective - noun
• relative clause - noun

One parameter has an alternative form which shows, however, a clear sign of alteration toward a realignment.
