The Numeral System

  • The Senjecan numeral system is vigesimal, i.e., based on the number 20. Each number, from 1 to 20, has its own name. From there the number is named based on the number 20, ẋűr. To make a multiple of 20, a number is placed before ẋűr, e.g. 40, d̬ő ẋur, two twenties. To make an addition to 20, a number is placed after ẋűr, e.g. 43, d̬o ẋűr tir, two twenties and a three. Each number is treated as a whole so that the accent will change leaving the primary accent on the next to last syllable.
100 and its multiples are exceptions. These numbers are treated as collective nouns and so take an -s in the plural. But when followed by a number the form minus the -o is used, with lenition when appropriate. Thus,
