Amade

Amade is the largest anbd msot economically powerful stte of the Ogili Empire.

Langugae

The tone system has esse3ntially reverted to that of Khulls. That is, Khulls had a stress/tone cobination, which went to all-tone in Ogili, and now is back as strress/tomne. But the tones are so heavily changed that high is refelcted as low as often as it is reflected as high. THis is unlike all other langiages that descendded from Khulls.

Consonants & voiwerls are similar butu nsteressed syllabs have lost all final consos and some voewrls. However, since the parent language Ogili was mostly (C)V to begin with, this is not a great loss, and for the most part, Amade is a fairly conservative language.

Geogrtaphy and climate

Amade's success derives largely from its unusual E-like shapre. In an empire where all other states sought to maximize their coastline, Amade started at the coast and purchased their way inland, leaving most of the other states (all except the border state of Gapola) surrounded by Amade. They thus also had one of the empire's two borders withj Moponshine and thje only border with Pusapom. The only placve they have lost out is Safiz, which was originally thje Amaderan heartland but is now over 90% Moonshine/Poswob shared settlements. Amadeans still remember, even though their present climate is the warmest in the Ogili Empire, that they came from a place whose climate was cold. Saifz is still officially part of Amade, but pays almost no taxes and Amade's military is embarrassed to admit that they can no longer safely visit, let alone collect the missing taxes.

Historically, the capital of the Ogili Empire was in the Amadean city of Pápi, located in Safiz. When Safiz seceded the capital moved to ther Amadean city of Andadí . Later it moved inland to the Amadean city of Lapibá. Finally Amade allowed the capital to move outside their state as other states were afraif of Amade's growing power. The local capital of Amade remained in Lapibá. Soime hundreds of years after that, the capital of Amade was moved to Baeba Swamp (called by many names; Amade's name for it was Laida).

Demographics

Amade is very diverse, but despite 2000+ years of political union, most tribes live in their historic homelands: Baebans in Baeba Swamp, Moonshines in the far north, Poswobs in pockets of the eastern mountain ranges, Ogilians along the west coast. Baeba is somewhat of an exception because, being the capital, it has attracted people even from outside the Empire, but Baebans are still by far the largest group and they maintain their own internal distinctions rather than simply calling themselves native Baebans.

Immigration and Exploratinm

Though originally based in the warm temperate west coast of Goga, they moved southward in search of founding an even warmer capitali n Baeba, and from there going even further south into the heart of the tropics. This southward push was also used buy the rival state of Taryte, but Taryte had been much farther south (though on a plateau) to begin with. At first the Amadeans saw Baeba and points south as mere colonies not desxerving of equal status in the government, but after several hundred years they began to push for political unification of all Amade-allied lands, even if it meant risking the possibility of the capital moving to Baeba, the largest city in the empire. Evbentually, they began to see Baeba as their new homeland, even though it was so heavily populated that Amadeans would be forever a minority there, and a shrinking one, as many Amadeans chose to marry into native Baeban families.

To deal with the loss of their tribal power, Amadeans began telling themselves that ethnic distinctions did not exist, and all Baebans were Amadeans and vice versa. For the most part, this unification of the two groups happened surpriingly peacefully. However, unlike Amade, Baeba was internally diverse, consisting of dozens of tribes. What happened was that Amadeans had to resign themselvbes to just being one of the tribes, which meant that they were not equals with the rulers of Baeba, but rather a middle class, because Baeba was not an egalitarian society in which anyone can rise to the top. In contrast, Baebans moving north into historically Amadeans territory blended in well, even though they were also mostly an underclass because the primary division here was hereditary wealth, and Baebans had none.

By the year 8700 Amadeans were successful in convincing the world that their capital was Baeba and their original northern homelands, though still the richest parts of their state, were merely backwaters dependent on the tropics for survival. THis was despite the fact that the Amad=eans didnt even firmly control Baeba and most did not live there. THey merely controlled the shipment of goods in and out of Baeba, and thus could control to some extent whether Baeba became rich or poor. THe Amadeans had never declarsed war on Baeba, as they had not been allowed to. THus they survived in a state of perpetyual violence, losing about 10X as many soldiers as there were civilians in that area.
