I'm Yiuel, a linguist and Japanese language specialist; I am also a conlanger and conworlder.

Interests in Conlangs, Concultures and Conworlds

I am a fan of many a few conworlds.

My favorites include :

Almea, by Mark Rosenfelder, a.k.a. zompist, is my favorite. While being explicitly a fantasy world, its description is details, with the rise and fall of many countries, both large (Axunai, Cadinas) and small (Javan, the Skourene city-states). The research done in many fields to actually give a verisimilitude to his work makes in invaluable as an example of what you need to think about when imagining a whole world. Obviously, it has inspired many changes in my own work. I also derive the imagery of my own religion from one of the Almea Belief Systems.

Arda, by J.R.R. Tolkien, for his very long history reaching millenia of work, with the appearance and disappearance of countries. I do have some reservations about the some social-science details about it, especially in terms of sociology and economics.

My creations

I am also a creator myself.

Conlangs

I have two details projects.

Thenqol

Thenqol is my first, and probably my most daring conlang. I actually derive it from a dare, originating in a now lost version of Mark Rosenfelder online Language Construction Kit. At one point, it went on describing languages that got rid of many types of words, and at one point, it went on describing a language without verbs. It somewhat made fun of it, and so did I, but I decided I'd try to create such a language, without a verbal element. This, ultimately, became the basis of my first conlang, Thenqol.

The language was never meant to be part of a conworld; however, I found it convenient enough to have it included as an auxlang created internally in my conworld Taasao.

Common Language of Melville

The Common Language of Melville, or more simply, Melvillian, is my second conlang. In a nutshell, it's an Esperantido, a language derived from Esperanto.

I am a speaker of Esperanto, and fairly proficient. However, I have a few words against a few Zamenhofisms, and I am, and always be, a huge critic of the pseudocanon dictionary PIV.

Unlike the Ur-Example of Esperantidos that is Ido, I have found nothing against the unnaturalness of Esperanto, and I am no big fan of the irregularities introduced by both PIV, in Esperanto, and the Idists, in Ido, to make it look like a Grecolatinate Stew. Melvillian is, therefore, my answer to both PIV and Ido. However, as I am not one who would wish to see Esperanto replaced any time soon (yet), I felt free to liberally change the Fundamento (which in Esperanto is supposed to be fixed and unchangeable) as well as getting rid of a few peculiar aspects of Esperanto.

The language however, is not an independent project; it is part of my Concountry Melville, as its common language.

Conworlds

I have also created two distinct conworlds.

Taasao

My larger project is my conworld Taasao. If I take into account the most ancient records from the most ancient species, Taasao has a history spanning over 180 million years. Yes, the large number is intentional. 180 million years is not, however, ideal, when a human wants to create a conworld, and most of its detailed history takes place withint the last 50k years described. It is still 10 times longer than human written history, so I do know I will have a lot of work. For more details, you can take a look at its dedicated page.

Melville

Melville is not a full blown conworld. In many ways, it has no sci-fi detail. It is only a human State (emphasis on the word State, not a country), on Earth, without any fantasy or new physical sciences so to speak. It is, however, a science-fiction. Specifically, I play with social sciences (psychology, sociology, economy, anthropology, linguistics). I think of it as a blueprint of what I would like to build in our real world.

As such, it is daring, but it tries to be interesting and likeable in terms of both society and general life. As, per Jacobean thinking, the heart of a country should be a dynamic city, or sleepy and autonomous town, and Melville's quintessential city-country is the City of Sevy. Most interesting details are probably within Sevy than the State of Melville alone; both projects, however, go hand in hand.

Note that there is a distinction between Melville, a moniker for the whole situation, and the State of Melville, the actual concountry.
