Zeuhl (pronounced [d͡zøːl]) is a music style invented by Christian Vander, drummer and leader of the French avant-garde rock band Magma. Zeuhl means celestial in Kobaïan, the constructed language created by Christian Vander, in which most of the lyrics are written. The music is a blend of progressive rock, modern jazz, neoclassicism and other elements. The Kobaïan language is an integral part of the music: the works of Magma tell a continuing science fiction story of a group of people fleeing a doomed Earth to settle on the planet Kobaïa. The music style was later adapted by other bands, mostly from France and Japan.
