I am Iuhan Culmærija – or ‘’John the Culmærian’’.

Despite living in South Africa, I do not speak Xhosa, Zulu or any other Bantu language. I have never regretted this – although I probably will eventually :Þ. Xhosa was compulsory from grade 0 to grade 7 at the school I attended; I have since forgotten everything and even struggle to produce click phonemes. I blame the fact that I dropped Xhosa for French.

I really don’t like [dʒ] and [tʃ]. I am not fond of initial [g] either. I often find that I listen to the sounds coming from people’s mouths rather than words. Essentially – this is why I conlang: I like beautiful sounding languages. This sounds quite Tolkienesque, however I am not a Quenya and Sindarin fan. I respect and admire the languages as art works; only, my phonoæsthetics differ from Tolkien’s.

I really like romlangs and germanic conlangs. While the GMP does not interest me much – I ‘’always’’ find the final product fascinating. My first conlang with which I’ve been able to engage is Syrunian – a semitic romlang.

Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Syrunian:

Sunt nasħuntaθs aunes ħuns libers, eħuals et sam al-dihnte al-żihursqe. Sunt dunati luir dal raσnim dal cusħentsimsqe et est-ċi avulet q’ agiσint ilar sifral-autres sam al-sfirte fraθres.
