Pronunciation:

The pronunciation in Dreqasif is vastly different than in English. The main differences are that some of the harder consonants have become softer or else either removed entirely, and that there are both long and short vowels, as well as diacritic vowels.

Vowels:

a (long)- as in father

a (short)- as in dark

e (long)- as in the “ea” sound in dream (but longer)

e (short)- as in the second “e” in elevator

i (long)- as in mice

i (short)- as in hit

o -as in home

u –as in luck


Umlaut Vowels:

ä-as in ai


Dipthongs:

ai- as in the “ay” sound in pay

au- as in restaurant

ei- as in the “y” sound in shy

ie- as in ei


Consonants:

b- as in bed

d- as in den

f- as in four

g- as in sabotage

h- as in hat

j- as in jam

l- as in lemon

m- as in man

n- as in man

p- as in pen

r- as in race

s- as in sun

sh- as in shame

t- as in toast

th- as in think

v- as in van

w- as in water

y- as in why

z- as in zoo

zh- as in pleasure
