Kēlen is an artlang invented by Sylvia Sotomayor. Its main uncommon feature is that the language does not have an open lexical class of verbs; instead, four relationals are used.
Kēlen is spoken by the Kēleni, a humanoid species of the planet Tērjemar.
Phonology
Kēlen has 17 consonants and 16 vowels.
The consonants are:
- Stops: /p/, /t/, /s/, /c/, /k/ (/s/ was earlier /ts/)
- Fricatives: /w/, /þ/, /x/, /j/, /h/
- Sonorants: /m/, /mm/, /n/, /nn/, /ñ/, /ññ/, /ŋ/, /ŋŋ/, /l/, /ll/, /λ/, /r/, /rr/
The vowels are:
- Short vowels: /i/, /e/, /a/, /o/, /u/(, /y/ in some dialects)
- Long vowels: /ī/, /ē/, /ā/, /ō/, /ū/
- Diphthongs: /āe/, /ae/, /āo/, /ao/, /iē/, /ie/, /āe/, /ae/
