Laescelh is a hilly region in the northwestern corner of Lhined. It is dominated by the Faranih, an ethnic group who comprise over 99% of its population.

Geography

It is bordered on the northwest by the Kupimiceh, a barren desert. To the northeast is a stretch of savanna, while the southeast is mainly higher and higher mountians of which Laescelh is merely the foothills. That mountain range extends south, further than the Faranih know, who refer to it as the "backbone of the world". To the southwest lies the chapparell which eventually gives way to the Mescinefh and Timeritah (Trovog in Etimri).

Due to this unique geography, Laescelh has high annual rainfall (around 30 to 40 inches in many regions), although the areas bordering it have very little rainfall, giving it a more productive economy and agriculture, in part inspiring its dominance over other regions and promotion of its langauge (Faranit) to lingua franca status.

Ecology

Laescelh is commonly described as having a "cfzb" or "cfb" climate under Koeppen's system. It profits from winter rainfall (from the west), which allows it to avoid the harsh winters of the east, as well as the monsoon from the southeast, which boosts its amaranth production, Laescelh's main crop.

Laescelh is famous for its multi-colored forests, where a mixture of various tree species grow and thrive. Because of its colorful appearance, it was named Lascelh, which derives from the same root as lizelh, gem, in Faranit.

Agriculture

Agriculture is highly productive in Laescelh. Its leading crops are puzeil, a tree which produces harvestable sweet roots, amaranth, leirodez, a sweet and sour flavored melon, noepav, a lettece like green, and vonabep, a fiber crop.
