Try to make consonant pairs, even if some of the consonants pair oddly. These could be used to generate new phonemic tones, making this a four-tone language instead of a two-tone one. Although this is most useful if the language retains six vowels, which it likely will not.

Only /p t h/ is problematic.  One alternative is /p~h/ and /t~l/.
