El damishen es una lengua de estructura aglutinante. Por la forma en que se marcan los argumentos de los verbos transitivos e intransitivos, se agrupa dentro de las lenguas nominativo-acusativas. Gramaticalmente, las oraciones del damishen se ordenan en SOV, con el verbo siempre al final. Sintácticamente es una lengua de núcleo final.
