What exactly is a "slant phoneme"? Google turns up only one other FW page of yours, and some poet talking about phonaesthetics. --John Vertical 13:23, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

Sorry I didn't see this for a while. Usually, they're created when borrowing from a neighboring language (or languages) especially in cases of rampant bilingualism forces a language to sometimes or conditionally consider a largely borrowed phone as a phoneme (or near to one). The only real world example I can think of are [ʧ] and [ʤ] in German, which are in most dialects are essentially phonemes (but they still have a somewhat contested status). =====
