• 19: Ἄνθρωπος δέ τις ἦν πλούσιος καὶ ἐνεδιδύσκετο πορφύραν καὶ βύσσον εὐφραινόμενος καθ' ἡμέραν λαμπρῶς

(there) was a certain rich man and he, merry, in luxury, used to wear purple cloth and fine.linen day after day.

• 20: πτωχὸς δέ τις ὀνόματι Λάζαρος ὃς ἐβέβλητο πρὸς τὸν πυλῶνα αὐτοῦ ἡλκωμένος

a certain poor (man), Lazarus by name, who, wounded, had been laid at his door

• 21: καὶ ἐπιθυμῶν χορτασθῆναι ἀπὸ τῶν πιπτόντων ἀπὸ τῆς τραπέζης τοῦ πλουσίου ἀλλὰ καὶ οἱ κύνες ἐρχόμενοι ἐπέλειχον τὰ ἕλκη αὐτοῦ.

• 22: ἐγένετο δὲ ἀποθανεῖν τὸν πτωχὸν καὶ ἀπενεχθῆναι αὐτὸν ὑπὸ τῶν ἀγγέλων εἰς τὸν κόλπον τοῦ Ἀβραάμ ἀπέθανεν δὲ καὶ ὁ πλούσιος καὶ ἐτάφη

and it happened the poor (man) died and was carried away by the angels into the bosom of Abraham and the rich (man) also died and was buried.

• 23: καὶ ἐν τῷ ἅδῃ ἐπάρας τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτοῦ ὑπάρχων ἐν βασάνοις ὁρᾷ τὸν Ἀβραὰμ ἀπὸ μακρόθεν καὶ Λάζαρον ἐν τοῖς κόλποις αὐτοῦ

and besides all these a great chasm has been fixed between you and us so that those desiring to pass from here to you are not able nor may they cross over from here to you."

• 27: εἶπε δέ Ἐρωτῶ οὖν σε πάτερ ἵνα πέμψῃς αὐτὸν εἰς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ πατρός μου

and he said, "Then I ask you, Father, that you send him to my father's house

• 28: ἔχω γὰρ πέντε ἀδελφούς ὅπως διαμαρτύρηται αὐτοῖς ἵνα μὴ καὶ αὐτοὶ ἔλθωσιν εἰς τὸν τόπον τοῦτον τῆς βασάνου

for I have five brothers, so that he may witness to them that they also not come to this place of torment."

• 29: λέγει δὲ Ἀβραάμ Ἔχουσι Μωϋσέα καὶ τοὺς προφήτας ἀκουσάτωσαν αὐτῶν

but Abraham sasy, "They have Moses and the prophets, let them hear them.

• 30: ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Οὐχί πάτερ Ἀβραάμ ἀλλ' ἐάν τις ἀπὸ νεκρῶν πορευθῇ πρὸς αὐτοὺς μετανοήσουσιν

but he said, "No, Father Abraham, but if someone from the dead should go to them they will repent.

• 31: εἶπε δὲ αὐτῷ Εἰ Μωϋσέως καὶ τῶν προφητῶν οὐκ ἀκούουσιν οὐδ' ἐάν τις ἐκ νεκρῶν ἀναστῇ πεισθήσονται
