Sohlob is the name both of a language family and of one of the members of that family, more properly called Classical Sohlob. The Sohloçan didn't make any systematic distinction between language and dialect the way we do, mainly because most of the languages they dealt with were more or less obviously related; thus a situation similar to that of 'dialects' of Chinese in our world.
The Languages
- Sound system
- The languages
- Kijeb the Ancient Language
- Not quite the proto-language, but really archaic Kidilib!
- Kidilib, the Language of the Ancient City
- Classical Sohlob, the language of books and of ceremony
- Heleb, the 'City language'
- Nandrab, the Language of the River Valley
- Yahab, the Language of the South
- Linjeb, the Language of the West
- Kijeb the Ancient Language
- Writing
- Kijeb writing
- A syllabary characterised by phonological underspecification.
- Old Kidilib script
- A younger version of the Kijeb syllabary.
- Sohlob alphabet
- The alphabet used to write the younger Sohlob languages. While it shares some features — notably phonological underspecification — with the Kijeb script there is no clear evidence how it may be derived from it.
- Kijeb writing
