These languages are distantly related to the Kartvelian and Tommian languages that arrived in the Iberian Peninsula about 6000 BC - 5000 BC with possibly the Cardium pottery culture with people that carrying Y-DNA haplogroup G2a.

The name "Huamish" is derived from the Proto-Huamish word for 'body', *hwam.
