Chathan (tcatamsck) is an a posteriori auxilary conlang based on Germanic languages. It is mostly West Germanic in nature, with some North Germanic influences as well.

Compared to most Germanic natlings, Chathan's grammar is somewhat simplified, though not as much as Afrikaans. Being Germanic-based, it has similarities to English, especially in its syntax. Its phonology is influenced by Dutch and German, though its phonetics are relatively accessible to Anglophones.

Chathan's vocabulary comes entirely from Germanic natlangs. Words are mostly rooted in Dutch/Afrikaans and German, though there are also North Germanic words from Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, and Icelandic. The vast majority of vocabulary is ultimately of Germanic origin, though there are also some words of Latinate origin.
