Nadean (Nadieialü rieunzü) is a language.

Phonology

The language permits only open syllables.

The syllable structure is ((n)[p/b/t/d/s/z/k/g/q])(r/l)[[i/y/ɨ/u](ː)/[(i̯/u̯)[e/ø/ɤ/o/a/ɒ](ː)(i̯/u̯)]]

Onset

The optional first element is a obstruent: labial, alveolar apical, alveolar laminal, velar or uvular (only voiceless); voiced or voiceless; prenasalized or not.

((n)[p/b/t/d/s/z/k/g/q])
  • /nb/ is realized as [m], written ‹m›
  • /np/ [ᵐp] is written ‹mp›
  • /nd/ is realized as [n], written ‹n›
  • /z ns nz/ are affricatized to [d͜z ⁿt͜s ⁿd͜z]
  • /nɡ/ is in some dialects pronounced [ŋ]

The optional second element is an alveolar fluid consonant: trill or lateral.

(r/l)

Some dialects palatalize /t d s z/ before /i y i̯/.

Rime

The rime can be formed two ways:

It can consist of a bare high vowel. The length is phonemic.

[i/y/ɨ/u](ː)
  • /y/ is written ‹ü› or ‹y›.
  • /ɨ/ is written ‹î› or ‹ı›.

It can also be composed of a medial glide, a mid or low vowel and a coda glide. The length of the nuclear vowel is phonemic.

(i̯/u̯)[e/ø/ɤ/o/a/ɒ](ː)(i̯/u̯)
  • /ø/ is written ‹ö› or ‹ø›.
  • /ɤ/ is written ‹ê› or ‹ə›.
  • /ɒ/ is written ‹â› or ‹å›.

Some dialect have merger of /ø~ɤ/ to [ɵ] or /ɨ~ø~ɤ/ to [ɘ].

Alphabet

The simple version:

A Â B D E Ê G I Î K L M N O Ö P Q R S T U Ü Z

The aesthetic version:

A Å B D E G I İ K L M N O P Q R S T U Y Z Ə Ø

Apostrophe ' is written between

  • two adjacent identical vowels: /ii/ ‹i'i›, /iː/ ‹ii›
  • one of /i u/ and a corresponding glide: /ii̯a/ ‹i'ia›, /iːa/ ‹iia›
  • one of /i u/ and a mid or low vowel: /ia/ ‹i'a›, /i̯a/ ‹ia›
