The many and varied cognates of Finno-Mordvinic *a.

Bold marks apparent vocalic irregularities (note tho that rules for Permic are partly unclear), red consonantal. Italic cases are unclear.

Mari uses the following ad hoc reconstruction:

  • short vowels = branches agree
    • except *ɤ = Meadow Mari /o/; *o = Komi /ɤ/
