The Norse Holding of Fínlǣ was first established around 1000CE in what is nathistorically the northern tip of Newfoundland. The original name Vínland applied a loosely-defined region centered on the first small settlement at the modern capital Bǽnfekk /baːnvek/ (orig. Bjarnivík).
