Paleo-Transalpine is a hypothetical language family propsed by Jörg Rhiemeier. It would have been the language family of the Upper Paleolithic people of Europe north of the Alps, later to split into Paleo-Atlantic and Paleo-Pontic.
Nothing is known about these languages. None of them seems to have survived into historical times, except perhaps the Northwest Caucasian and Northeast Caucasian languages.
