The name milhaf is derived from the phrase "Our Kind" in one of their languages, Classical Kasshian, as it exists in its descendant Ivetsian. Their planet is known as Galhaf, "Our World" in the same language. The two main species are the Northerners and the Southerners, names derived from their original occurrence on Galhaf. Other semi-sentient relatives exist.
