ee (long)- as in the “ea” sound in dream (but longer)

e (short)- as in the second “e” in elevator

ii (long)- as in mice

i (short)- as in hit

o -as in home

u –as in luck

Diacritic Vowels:

ä -as in the word "air"

á -a high vowel as in the "a" in cradle

à -a low vowel as in the "a" in fade

Dipthongs:

ai- as in the “ay” sound in pay

au- as in restaurant

ei- as in the “y” sound in shy

ie- as in ei

Consonants:

b- as in be

d- as in den

f- as in four

g- as in sabotage

h- as in hat

j- as in jam

l- as in lemon

m- as in man

n- as in man

p- as in pen

Notes:

• Long vowels never begin a word.

• Long vowels must always be written as double letters -they must not be written as a capital letter.

• Diacritic vowels must always be written with a diacritic -they are not to be written as a capital letter.

• It's common to find long consonants at the end of a word that would otherwise not occure in English.
