The Gileican Islands [dʒɪ'li:kən] (lit. "winter islands"; Dethric Gileicuno Eidis [ʒi'li:kɯnə 'i:ðis]) are a chain of volcanic islands east of Dethria at the divergent plate boundary between the Canthauresian and Marcasian plates, formed from a stationary mantle plume. While geologically young, the islands are already densely settled by wildlife; since discovery in 1946 CIE, the area has been off-limits to human settlement and activity other than scientific research.
